About the soap project

We are delighted to unveil this exclusive 150 g soap with an eyelet design, created especially for the MSK Museum. More than a simple object, this piece represents a meeting point between art, design, and everyday ritual. Inspired by the calm yet vibrant energy of coastal landscapes, it transforms a familiar gesture into a refined and immersive sensory experience.

The starting point for this creation was a painting of a beach from the MSK collection, an artwork that captures not only a place, but a feeling. The softness of sand, the quiet rhythm of waves, and the shimmering reflections of light on water all come together in a composition that invites stillness and contemplation. Our challenge was to reinterpret this visual language into a tangible object, preserving its emotional resonance while giving it a new, functional dimension.

The result is a soap that speaks through form as much as through fragrance. Its distinctive eyelet design is inspired by organic, natural shapes often found along the coast, eroded stones, shells, and the fluid marks left by water over time. This sculptural quality gives the soap a strong visual identity, but also encourages interaction. It is meant to be held, turned, explored. Each curve and indentation has been thoughtfully designed to echo the harmony between nature and artistic expression, creating a piece that feels both deliberate and intuitive.

Texture plays a central role in this interpretation. Just as the original painting suggests the grain of sand and the movement of water through brushstrokes, the soap translates these sensations into a tactile experience. The smoothness of its surface contrasts with its subtle reliefs, inviting a slower, more attentive engagement. In this way, the object becomes more than functional, it becomes experiential.

Equally important is the olfactory dimension. The Kelp/Sea fragrance was carefully developed to complement the visual and tactile aspects of the piece. Fresh marine notes immediately evoke the openness of the ocean, while soft, earthy undertones ground the composition, recalling seaweed, wet sand, and coastal vegetation. The result is a scent that feels both invigorating and calming, capable of transporting the user to a shoreline landscape with each use.

This combination of form, texture, and fragrance allows the soap to operate on multiple sensory levels. It is not just something to use, but something to experience. Each moment of contact becomes an opportunity to reconnect with the atmosphere of the original artwork – to pause, to breathe, and to engage with a sense of quiet presence that is often lost in the rhythm of everyday life.

The development process behind this piece was deeply collaborative. Designed and produced entirely by us at Takemuseum, the project evolved through an ongoing dialogue with the MSK Museum. This exchange was essential in ensuring that the final object remained faithful to the spirit of the artwork while embracing a contemporary design language. Rather than simply reproducing an image, our goal was to translate its essence – its mood, its balance, its subtlety – into a new medium.

This approach reflects a broader philosophy that guides our work at Takemuseum. We believe that art should not be confined to gallery walls or limited to moments of observation. Instead, it can and should become part of daily life, integrated into routines in ways that are both meaningful and accessible. By transforming artistic inspiration into functional objects, we create new points of connection between people and culture.

Soap and design come together

In this context, the soap becomes a small but powerful example of how design can extend the life of an artwork beyond its original format. It invites users to carry a fragment of that experience with them, to engage with it repeatedly, and to reinterpret it through their own senses. It also challenges the way we think about everyday object, suggesting that even the most ordinary items can hold depth, intention, and beauty.

Ultimately, this piece is about translation: from canvas to object, from sight to touch, from observation to experience. It is about preserving the poetic essence of a landscape while allowing it to evolve into something new and personal. Through this process, the boundaries between art and life begin to dissolve, giving rise to moments that are both intimate and expansive.

This exclusive soap embodies our commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and collaboration. It stands as a testament to what can emerge when disciplines intersect and when inspiration is approached with care and curiosity. More than a product, it is an invitation to slow down, to engage the senses, and to rediscover the quiet beauty that surrounds us.
